I spent a week in Dresden for work and ended up having dinner at this café almost every day, so this review will be a bit long as I wanted to share my experience throughout the whole week.
I was always accompanied by a German colleague, so we communicated in German every time. However, I believe the staff also speaks English.
The atmosphere is really cozy and welcoming.
I’ll admit that my first dinner at the café was last Monday (03 August), and although the food was tasty, the plate came with very little salad. The portion was quite disappointing and the presentation felt a bit careless, like not much attention had been given to it.
However, since the food itself was tasty and the café was close to where I was staying, we decided to come back on Wednesday anyway, and the experience was completely different. The dishes looked clean, beautiful, and much more carefully prepared.
My colleague ordered a pasta salad that came beautifully arranged inside salad leaves, almost looking like a flower (unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture)
Throughout the week, I tried several different dishes for dinner, and everything came beautifully presented, clean, and with much more salad than on my first visit. So I think I was simply unlucky that first day.
Of everything I tried, I definitely recommend the Maklub, it was really delicious. The pasta salad and the regular salad were also very tasty and got extra points for looking so beautiful. The same goes for the fried cheese, it’s basically cheese, spicy mango sauce, and focaccia, but the presentation is really pretty and it tastes great, the cheese was really crispy and not too greasy.
I also recommend the bruschetta. The tomatoes were small and easy to eat, and it was served with a lot of care and a nice presentation.
I didn’t find the prices expensive, unlike what I had read in some previous reviews. I didn’t have breakfast there, so I can’t comment on that, but the dinner portions were very generous and I definitely felt like it was worth the price.
One thing I found a little disappointing was that I visited the café every day from 3 to 9 August and didn’t see any new cakes to try. It was always the same selection. Since it’s a café, I was hoping to see at least one different cake during the week, but unfortunately that wasn’t the case. That might simply be because I was only there in the evenings tho
Personally, I had better experiences with the service between Friday and Sunday. On the other days, we were occasionally forgotten at the table, even when there weren’t many people around. That said, the staff were generally very kind, and overall I really enjoyed my experience.
Next time I’m in Dresden, I already know where I’ll be having dinner
